The Build - Render & Plaster
I am using a three-coat lime render on the outside of the straw (cement render is too brittle). This was applied partly by hand and partly using a hopper-fed render gun.

For the inside I am using a three-coat clay plaster made with clay dug form my long-suffering neighbours' garden (they helped put it on too!).

Clay has some very useful properties; it helps to regulate humidity; absorbing excess moisture and releasing it again when the relative humidity drops (very useful inside but not great for exterior work in the damp British climate).
